sleep paralysis n.
A condition in which, upon waking, a person is aware of the surroundings but is unable to move. 

 

It is a transitional state between wakefulness and sleep, characterized by muscle atonia. It is often accompanied by terrifying and unusually powerful hallucinations, such as a terrifying shadow in the shape of a man intruding in the room, to which one is unable to react due to paralysis, and physical experiences, such as strong current running through the upper body.
